Top 10 records to come out in 2014

My top 10 records of 2014 (Records that were released this year)

1. Ought - More Than Any Other Day
Yes they sound like Talking Heads but this album reminds me so much more of the first two Mission Of Burma albums. Arty post punk at its best is as good as it gets. Love the synth/guitar interplay and there's some fantastic bass lines too. Album of the year. Their EP is also great.
2. Richard Dawson - Nothing Important
Thanks to Kiran Leonard for pushing this my way. This would have been number one had it have come out earlier in the year. One man giving it his all. Life affirming lyrics. The title track is one of, if not the greatest song ever made.
3. Angel Olsen - Burn Your Fire For No Witness
I liked her first effort but this is something else. John Congleton's production makes this record, every song has it's own unique feel and yet the whole thing holds together beautifully.
4. Swans - To Be Kind
Call me nuts but I think I actually prefer this record to The Seer. When I first heard Oxygen it nearly gave me a panic attack. Also maybe the best live act I saw this year.
5.Thurston Moore - The Best Day
My hero, pushing sixty and still putting out some of his best stuff to date.
6. Ty Segall - Manipulator
Thanks to Johnny Winbolt-Lewis for the heads up on this. Not a life changer but a really solid record, great production and some killer guitar solos.
7.Chad VangGaalen - Shrink Dust
Not the best CV album but it contains some of the best songs he's ever written like Lila and Weighted Sin. Really regret telling him I hated his Steinberger guitar at End Of The Road, he seemed genuinely offended.
8.Julie Byrne - Rooms With Walls and Windows
Beautiful psych folk dreamy record and she's such a lovely woman.
9.Eagulls - Eagulls
This record blew me away on first few listens, doesn't hit me the same now but its still deserves a place in my top 10. Love the PiL esque production.
10.King Of The Mountains - King Of The Mountains
Phil Kay you are a genius. Enough said.
